Ballina Jet Boat Rescue

New South Wales Surf Life Saving Support Service

Formally the Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Life Saving Club Inc. operated the Jet Rescue Boat from the commencement of the service in 1971 to the handing over of the Jet Rescue Boat operations on the 10th November 2002.

This year 2013 sees our service celebrate our 42nd year of service to the community.

Our Service gained accreditation for ‘Marine Rescue Unit Category 1 (Ministerial
Limited – Bar Operations Only) by the State Rescue Board of New South Wales in December 1994 and to this day we are the only club or group within Surf Life Saving to gain this accreditation. Our service is very unique as we are only one of two in NSW and three around Australia operating a Jet Rescue Boat that are not operated by their respective State Centres.

More and more this service is required to perform rescues away from our normal
patrol operations. In response, our service has responded to this need and over
the years has expanded the Jet Rescue Boat operations and has introduced the
Rescue 4WD and two (2) Rescue Water Craft to our rescue operations.

Our facility is located at Regatta Avenue directly behind the Police Station in Ballina. This location allows for easy launching of the Jet Rescue Boat into the harbour in any conditions day or night.
